Sapporo Trip: Part 1

We went up to the northern island of Hokkaido this weekend to see the 63rd annual Sapporo snow festival and boy was there snow. Lots and lots of snow. I was very pretty and very cold.

The main attraction to Sapporo in the middle of their worst weather is their annual Snow Festival. The first day we were there, The festival hadn't started so we got to wander around and watch the artists at work.

The last day we were there was the official start of the festival so we got the see everything finished (for the most part) and got to see the front of the really big ones (like 2-3 stories big) that were done the whole time we were there, but closed off until the opening. The aquarium sponsored one of sea animals. It was my favorite.

It's amazing the detail they can create out of snow.

The Taj Mahal -er- the Snowj Mahal.

A few streets over they also do Ice sculptures. I don't think they were completely finished by the time we left. These two were my favorites:

More tomorrow!
